Um dos maiores artistas plásticos da actualidade, o alemão Anselm Kiefer, vai fixar-se em Portugal, para criar uma "floresta cultural" numa extensa herdade no Litoral Alentejano, foi hoje anunciado.

"Portugal ficará, assim, a contar com uma grande centro cultural e turístico de excepcional qualidade de projecção internacional, (...) o primeiro envolvendo o nosso país e um grande criador mundial de nacionalidade não portuguesa", refere o texto enviado à Lusa.
Anselm Kiefer, 64 anos, tem obras nos maiores museus do mundo, caso do Arte Moderna de Nova Iorque, Gugenheim, de Bilbao (Espanha), Centre Pompidou (Paris) e foi o segundo artista contemporâneo vivo a integrar a colecção permanente do Louvre, também na capital francesa. O primeiro foi Georges Braque, cerca de 50 anos antes.
Com uma obra que vai além das artes plásticas, concebeu, dirigiu e encenou a ópera comemorativa dos 20 anos da Ópera da Bastilha, em França.
Em 2008, recebeu o Friedenspreis der Deutschen Buchhandels - um do prémios de maior prestígio na Alemanha, pela primeira vez atribuído a um artista plástico.
Kiefer chega a Portugal vindo de França, onde ao longo de 14 anos e num espaço de 100hectares, em Barjac, criou um importante conjunto de obras.
A opção por Portugal significa que o artista alemão terá "declinado múltiplos convites alternativos, alguns deles formulados por países europeus", acrescenta a nota do Gabinete de José Sócrates.
Considerado um dos mais conhecidos artistas de sucesso do pós-guerra, mas também dos mais controversos, Anselm KIefer tornou-se conhecido pelas suas pinturas de materiais (Materialbilder) e na sua obra confronta-se com o passado e aborda temas tabu bastante controversos, como a época nazi.
Um dos seus quadros mais famosos é "Margarethe", em que utiliza na tela óleos e palha, e se inspira no poema "Todesfüge" (Fuga da Morte) de Paul Celan.
Nos media da Alemanha, trava-se há muitos anos uma controvérsia em torno do real valor da sua obra, que já teve incursões pela mitologia alemã e pela mística judaica, a chamada Kabbala.
Além de quadros, Kiefer criou aguarelas, fotos e embutidos de madeira e também esculturas. Os seus mísseis e aviões de chumbo, e uma biblioteca formada por álbuns (fólios) de chumbo, intitulada "60 milhões de ervilhas", estão também entre as obras de Kiefer mais conhecidas.
